So I had an appointment today with my OBGYN. Actually, it was with the PA in his office but I love her and feel comfortable with her so I'm good with that. Anyway, the original reason I was going was because I hadn't had a period in 60 days. Well guess who showed up this morning? AF, of course. So I called the office and they said go ahead and come in since you're almost at the year mark and your periods are so irregular. So the PA explained everything we're going to do. First, I'm getting labwork (thyroid studies and a few labs for PCOS, I think?) and P has to have a SA. After the labs and SA come back, I'll get an HSG. After that, I'll start Clomid (I'm still not sure about taking that yet but we'll cross that bridge when we get there). She said she usually does Clomid for 3 cycles and then at that point, we'll discuss a referral to a RE. I'm really happy I'm seeing her instead of the dr because she told me the dr will have women do cycle after cycle after cycle of Clomid before considering referring them out but she doesn't see the point in waiting so long. I am 100% ok with not waiting forever. She almost mentioned something about putting me back on birth control for 3 months to regulate things and then starting over but I said that's not even an option. First of all, it doesn't even make sense to me. Second of all, I really don't want to delay things even more. Crappy thing is, I'm pretty sure my insurance doesn't cover infertility studies/treatment so P and I will have to discuss how far we want to take this. I at least want to get the initial studies done to see if we can figure out what we're dealing with.
Lol, so when I got home I had to break the news to P about doing the SA. His reaction? "Oh that sounds just fantastically awkward." Haha! I think I'm going to have to start explaining everything to him a little more because the other night, I told him I had to go to the doctor because I hadn't had a period in 2 months and I'm not pregnant and his response was to put his hand on my belly and say "Are you sure?" Well, that about broke my heart and annoyed me at the same time. I was like "Yes, dear. I'm 100% sure." I think he needs a little bit of education on this topic. I also think I'm going to have to have a discussion with my sister. She went with me so we could shop afterward and I texted her while I was in the dr's office to tell her it might be a while because they had mentioned maybe doing an ultrasound (which they didn't). She says "Oh, maybe you'll get an ultrasound and you'll be pregnant!" I'm like "I'm not pregnant, you idiot. I just started my period." She says "There are women that get their period and are still pregnant." What!? Where in the hell did you hear that from? Obviously, we need to talk about the birds and the bees a little because you are nowhere near being even remotely correct on this assumption. Anyhoo, that is where we are in the whole TTC journey. I was really hoping not to get to this point but now I'm just hoping it will be a simple fix. We shall see.
On a more exciting note, P's birthday party is this weekend! A lot of our friends are coming and we're going to chill by the pool, drink, and play cornhole! His bday party is always a good time so I'm definitely looking forward it. Especially since I was sick all last weekend and couldn't enjoy his actual birthday. I'm also going up to Akron on Friday to take some classes to learn how to take care of our friends' special needs baby. That way when A goes back to work, she'll have one more person she can trust to take care of the baby. Oh, and I have a Thirty One/Pink Zebra party to attend on Sunday night. It's turning out to be a busy weekend!
Yay! I'm so happy that AF finally paid you a visit. It sounds like you have a good plan to go with. -I don't get the "get back on bcp to help regulate things" thing either..
ReplyDeleteYour DH sounds a lot like mine! That made me giggle :)
I have my FX for you. I have a feeling things are really going to work out for you :)
It sounds like you have a fun weekend ahead. I can't wait to hear more about it!
Yeah, totally don't get the bcp thing either but I didn't ask more questions bc it's not an option.
DeleteLol yeah...DH is less than thrilled but he's being a good sport.
Thank you! I have my FX for you, too! Things will work out for both of us.
I'm excited! I love busy weekends!
